Nöpön in Memoriam
Where a true heart beats
26.11.1986 - 28.05.2003
The bottom of the litter did great. In January 87, we got a small, tiny kitten from Taavetti, who never grew up to be big, but who had an iron will. 16 and a half years later, everything is a mess in our house, as he did not return from a short trip to the doctor in a happy mood.
We have finally tried to collect some memories with pictures. The best ones have of course been preserved in our own memories, but this way we can also open up a little of Nöpö's world to the world.
Huhtiniemi until summer of 1988
We had lost our lovely cat Mimmi in the autumn of 86, whom we had been searching for months in the Huhtiniemi countryside. After Christmas, we received an announcement that Taaveti had kittens for sale. The call revealed that there was only one left, a very small one.
And yes, it suited us, and so little Nöpö came into our lives. Right from the start, he identified with our Juulia-collie as his mother, who surprisingly didn't mind the newcomer.
Nöpö was interested in everything, but she wasn't allowed to roam freely like Mimmi. We didn't want to start any more exploration trips, so Nöpö had to get used to the harness.
Even though Nöpö wasn't blessed with a big size, the more energetically she moved.
Nöpö was particularly fun to spend time in the bathroom, jumping onto the sink and onto the window. We even managed to get a video of her jumping onto the window frame above the sink and using his weight to make it open, opening the way to the windowsill to admire the scenery outside.
And the same as a video Hyppyvideo 1987 mp4, 38 s.
And not just any video, but via YouTube, New Zealand cat food manufacturer Gourmet commissioned it for its own advertising campaign. Plus, she always wanted to lick the toilet bowl when it was flushed.
Nöpö played with Juulia constantly in our small apartment and Juulia got good exercise by searching for Nöpö in the hiding places covered by the furniture. And many times Nöpö happily found herself in the bedroom under the bed when Juulia barked at the cat from the living room.
Mustola
We got our own home in July 88 when we came here to peaceful Mustola near the Saimaa Canal. Unfortunately, it was Juulia's time to leave us the following spring and Nöpö lost her big friend.
A completely new trait also appeared in Nöpö, as he began to respond to Jari's singing. All he had to do was start "That's how I, Nöpö, sing to you, as if to my own cat...", and he quickly came to stroke his daddy's beard.
We thought that Nöpö was being left alone too much and decided to get a friend. We found Miquel (Mikke) the cat from Sini's aunt's farm, and we believed that he would end up being a companion similar to Juulia.
But what do you know, Nöpö didn't want to have anything to do with Mikke at all. It was powerless to watch, when little Nöpö ordered the much bigger Mikke around.
Here is another series of pictures of Nöpö's good mobility, as she jumps from the side of the stove onto the freezer and plays on the edges of the fireplace, also trying to get in.
