Outlander & Google Earth – chapter tour

Follow Claire and Jamie through Scotland, France and North America – directly on the globe.

Have you ever wanted to see where Craigh na Dun, Lallybroch, Ardsmuir, River Run, Fraser’s Ridge or L’Hôpital des Anges would be on the map? With Google Earth and our chapter placemarks you can fly from one key location to another and follow the journey of the books.

We have collected the main location of each chapter in each Outlander book into one Google Earth file. You can browse the whole series or switch books on and off as you read.

Download the Google Earth file

1. Install Google Earth on your computer (free).
2. Download our KML file and open it in Google Earth:

OutlanderGE_1.4.kml – main locations by chapter for the Outlander books, including An Echo in the Bone.

In the Places panel you can expand each book and turn it on or off while you read. It’s a nice way to follow the grand tour through Scotland, North Carolina, Paris and even the West Indies.

When you reach Dragonfly in Amber, you can also use the Rumsey Historical Maps layer (in the left-hand Gallery panel). For example: in the area of Paris, click the small Rumsey thumbnail Rumsey thumbnail for “Paris 1743” to overlay a period map on top of the globe.

We have also recorded the chapter tours for the first two books, accompanied by music from The Corries. The files are fairly large, so the download may take some time – but they give a nice overview of the journey for armchair travelling.
