Claire's Ring
The iconic silver ring Jamie gave Claire – a small object that plays a big role in the book and on our bookshelf.
In the first book, The Outlander, Claire receives a ring that has become a hit with the most avid readers of the series. Diana later designed the ring in Celtic style for her book, The Outlandish Companion.
The ring was so popular that in the spring of 2006, Janice and Michelle had to announce that they would only be taking a limited number of orders. In the fall of 2006, an Arizona charity raffle gave away three rings and the right to order ten rings. We made a small donation via PayPal, and Diana just as surely as she did picked our names from the whiskey glass that served as the raffle ticket.
So in January 2007, the long-awaited package arrived in the mail, containing the ring and a bookmark signed by Diana.
The ring was engraved on the outside S&J and on the inside, inspired by the book, the Latin text of Catullus Da mi basia mille (Suuta suo tuhat, Finnish: Päivö Oksala).
The Bookmark has a quotation from chapter 23 of the Outlander from the moment Claire receives the ring.
